A festive atmosphere took over Kyrenia Old Harbour as children and families gathered to celebrate 1 June World Children’s Day, with the event organized by Girne Municipality offering a day full of colour, music, and joy.

The World Children’s Day celebration brought together preschool, kindergarten, and primary school students from the Girne region. The harbour transformed into a vibrant venue filled with children’s laughter, music, and performances.

Young students delighted the audience with their dance and music shows. The event also featured inflatable playgrounds, face painting stations, and stalls offering food, drinks, and gift items.

Children were treated to balloons and ice cream throughout the day.

A rich programme of performances included the 23 Nisan Primary School Choir, International French School Music Group, modern dance shows by Mustafa Çağatay, Karaoğlanoğlu and Şehit Hasan Cafer Primary Schools, and musical and dance performances by Bilgi Işığı Montessori Preschool.

Also featured were folk dances by the Young Art Enthusiasts Association Minik Group, gymnastics by Doğa College, and zumba performances by Melike Kaptanoğlu Kids Zumba, Julia Dance Spot, and Girne American Primary School Zumba Joy group. The crowd was also entertained by pantomime acts and a bubble show.

The event gained an international flair with performances by folk dance groups from Poland, Ukraine, Colombia, and Palestine, who are currently in the TRNC for the 17th International Summer Joy Children’s Festival organized by FOGEM.

Speaking to BRT, Serdar Tuksal, Head of the Social Services Division at Girne Municipality, said the aim of the event was to unite preschools, kindergartens, and primary schools in the region to offer children a joyful and unforgettable day.

Children who participated in the event also shared their happiness and experiences with BRT, describing it as a day full of fun and excitement.
